September 6th, 2011
Under the previous version of the IP
telephony system, end-users who wished to operate a new phone were required to
purchase a device license with it, for transfer to the University.Effective September 2011, this is no longer
the case as the licensing model becomes feature based rather than device based.
In short this means that end users are no longer required to purchase a license
with their phone from the vendor. In order to operate a new phone the license
must now be leased from the University*,
the license fee is determined based on the feature set included in the service
package. For more information regarding available license types please refer to
the License Section
Voice Services is pleased to introduce
Single Number Reach (SNR) to the Concordia VoIP community. SNR is a feature
which allows for a call placed to a given extension to reach/ring multiple
destinations simultaneously, such as a desk phone and a cell phone for
example. This allows the end user to
pick up work calls on his\her cell phone (or any other phone) and only
advertise a single number to reach him\her.SNR is schedulable from the end user configuration web page and can be
turned on or off from the phone set at the push of a button. For more
information, eligibility requirements and configuration requests please contact Voice Services
Presence is a feature which allows end-users to
display their availability and advertise a preferred means to be reached in the
form of a status. The presence status of the end-user is made available to
other users who have subscribed to it. This service is available to end-users
via a web based profile page or from the CUPC application, a soft phone and
instant messaging client for CUCM. For more
information, eligibility requirements and configuration requests please contact Voice Services

IMAP
users who wish to play their voicemail messages via telephone can now
do so by means of having Cisco ViewMail setup in their Outlook (v.
2003, 2007 and 2010). Please note that IMAP configured alone will only
allow for voicemail messages to be played through your desktop
speakers. Please contact the IITS Helpdesk by email at
help@concordia.ca or at extension 7613 in order to submit a request for
this service. December 16th, 2010

:
The telephone and voice-mail system will be upgraded this weekend. The upgrade period starts at 5:00pm on Friday, December 17th and lasts until 8:00am on Monday, December 20th.
Users may experience interruptions in their telephone and voice-mail
service during this time. Please ensure that your telephone is plugged
in before you leave the university on Friday.
On Monday, Dec. 20th,
all users will be on the new telephone and voice-mail system. The
procedure to access the new voice-mail on your telephone is the same
way it was on the old system. The only exception is that the system
will ask you to enter your PIN instead of entering your voice-mail
password. The PIN is your voice-mail password. Detailed instructions on how to access the new voice-mail system will be released shortly.
Voice-mail
messages that are currently stored under your account will NOT be
transferred to the new system. Additionally, any voice-mail messages
left in your mailbox during the upgrade weekend will be saved on the
old voice-mail system. Instructions on how to access the old voice-mail
system will be released shortly. Voice-mail users will be able to
access their old messages until January 15th, 2011.
November 24th, 2010
Within the next couple of weeks, IITS
will upgrade the University's voice mail system. We strongly recommend
that all voice mail users clean up their accounts and delete all
unnecessary voice-mail messages.
Voice mail messages that are currently
stored under your account will NOT be transferred to the new system.
Once the upgrade is complete, voice-mail users will be able to access
their old messages for a short period of time (instructions will be
released prior to performing the upgrade). IITS cannot guarantee the
length of time this access will be available or that all of the old
voice-mail messages will be retained.
November 5th, 2010
Since Nov. 3rd Voice Services has no
longer been accepting requests to modify the existing voice mail system
due to the upgrade of the University's voice mail system.
We wish to notify you that another
holding period affecting the telephone system will take place from
Tuesday, November 9th to Tuesday, December 7th. This means that
requests to install, disconnect, move, or make any programming changes
to telephones will not be processed after the November 8th deadline.
Any telephone requests submitted to the IITS Helpline during the one
month holding period will be handled after December 7th.
If an urgent telephone request does
arise during these four weeks, please submit the request to the IITS
Helpline at ext. 7613 or help@concordia.ca.
We appreciate your help in relaying all
of this information to your respective units. Once the telephone
holding period is over, we will send an e-mail notification to all VoIP
coordinators on this list serve.
October 22nd, 2010
IITS is happy to announce that the
university will soon be upgrading to Cisco Unified Communications
Manager version 8 -- a more reliable and robust telephone and
voice-mail system.
We are currently in the process of
performing preventive maintenance for the next three weeks in order to
avoid service interruptions during the upgrade.
The voice-mail system will be upgraded
first and will involve a two-week hold on all voice-mail modifications,
as well as special instructions for Exchange users. We will be
providing you with all the details, including the holding dates,
shortly. We will also be posting project updates on this website.
